Invisalign® is a form of orthodontic treatment that uses clear aligners instead of brackets and wires. These aligners are made out of a clear plastic and are barely noticeable when they are on the teeth. As treatment progresses, you will receive new aligners to wear for a set amount of time. Each aligner works on specific movements that will eventually result in properly aligned teeth and bite. These aligners are also removable, meaning that you can undergo orthodontic treatment without having to make extensive lifestyle changes.
Did You Know?
Invisalign® yields similar results and retention rates as traditional metal braces, however it offers patients a discrete and comfortable orthodontic option.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Am I a candidate for Invisalign®?
You may be a candidate for Invisalign® if you have:
- Gaps between the teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Overlapping teeth
- Overbite
- Crossbite
- Underbite
- Open bite
While Invisalign® can effectively treat mild to moderate malocclusion, however, more severe cases may require another orthodontic method for treatment. To determine if you are an ideal candidate for Invisalign®, schedule a consultation at Apollo Dental Centre today!
What can I expect when undergoing Invisalign® treatment at Apollo Dental Centre?
When undergoing Invisalign® treatment at Apollo Dental Centre, you can expect to be provided with a set of clear aligners. These aligners are to be worn at least 22 hours a day and should only be removed while eating, drinking, brushing, or flossing. Each set of clear aligners is generally worn for 1-2 weeks, depending on your treatment plan and progress. Approximately every 6-8 weeks, you will visit Apollo Dental Centre so our dentists can evaluate your progress and provide you with the next series of aligners. In most cases, you can expect your treatment to last approximately a year and a half as long as you wear your aligners as directed.
Since Invisalign® aligners are removable, you won’t need to worry about dietary restrictions like you would with metal braces. Clear aligners are also more comfortable to wear according to patients. Although you still may experience some soreness after starting a new aligner, you won’t have to worry about sores from metal rubbing on the inside of your cheeks and lips.
Will I need to wear a retainer after Invisalign® treatment?
Yes, regardless of the orthodontic method used to treat your teeth, you will need to wear a retainer after undergoing active orthodontic treatment. This is because retainers “retain” the correct position of the teeth and prevent them from returning to their original position. Therefore, it is highly important to wear your retainer as directed to maintain your results. In most cases, you will start by wearing your retainer full time, then eventually wean to only wearing it at night. Invisalign® offers a Vivera retainer that is just as comfortable and discreet as their clear aligner system.
